Myrtle Rust confirmed in Remuera

posted in: Latest News 0
The Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) have confirmed that 26 properties in Remuera now have trees infected with myrtle rust. They have also now confirmed that three pōhutukawa in Wairua Reserve, Remuera, have confirmed infections. There are a number of susceptible trees on the park yet to show signs of infection.
Auckland Council staff are currently in discussions with MPI around how best to manage these infected trees, as well as the longer-term management of the disease across Auckland. They will also be looking at what changes may need to be made to council operations such as planting programmes, resource consent requirements, field work protocols and so on in order to support the effort to contain or reduce the spread of this disease.
The council will be increasing communications to ask the public to be on the look-out and report any suspected myrtle rust through MPI’s phone line: 0800 80 99 66. Download the app to report Myrtle Rust.
Auckland Council will keep you updated with further myrtle rust detections as they are provided by MPI, and we will also update you on next steps regarding management of the disease on the reserve.
