Air Traffic Nuisance over Remuera

posted in: Latest News 0

Frustration continues to grow at the number of flight movements over the Remuera valley. There appears to be no control of the airspace over the city, with no agency having any practical power to mitigate the nuisance from height, noise, pollution etc over residential areas.

The culprit is the out-of-date aviation regulations, and poor consumer/resident protections, coupled with the inadequate reach of any council action under the Resource Management Act.

Police, commercial, recreational and private craft are not only creating a nuisance during daylight hours and weekends, but progressively into the early hours of the morning.

There is an increased nuisance from the Police helicopter which is on duty 24/7 across Auckland. The Police have reported that there are no specifically designated flight paths utilised by the helicopter unless they enter the controlled airspace within the Airport and its boundaries. Their best practice solution is to fly a direct line between the helicopter’s current location and the location where assistance is needed.

Whilst there are inadequate channels to log general complaints. The CAA is the agency with the most ability to help. To log complaints please use the following CAA contacts: Telephone 0508 472 33 8 (0508 4 SAFETY). Email: isi@caa.govt.nz.

A Notice of Requirement for the proposed Northern Runway at Auckland International Airport has been notified. Remuera will be further impacted by increased airport traffic from a new runway. For property impact informationWe urge you to have your say and make a submission.
