Residents are invited to join in the Bastille Day celebrations this Saturday 14 July – a highlight event of the year where everyone plays a part. Our thanks to the Remuera Business Association for their organising – let’s give them our support.
And on this note, our thanks to the Remuera Library and its staff for hosting our Annual General Meeting last month. The residents who were there enjoyed addresses from Desley Simpson, our hard working Councillor, Kit Parkinson, the new Chairman of the Orakei Local Board (OLB), and Troy Churton our OLB liaison member for the Association. Also, two officers from Auckland Transport provided full details of the changes to the Central Bus Network effective 8 July.
Troy introduced to the meeting Kevin Kevany of Meadowbank who has spent many years on the subject of aircraft movement and noise levels over the Eastern Suburbs. The meeting concurred that the frequency of flights – particularly late at night – was distinctly noticeable and not apparently subject to any control. A post on our Facebook page to that effect got a reaction of “the wrong end of the stick”, judging by recent articles in the media. At our meeting there was no suggestion that the Police not use helicopters in their crime fighting activity – clearly a very effective tool recently introduced – but the meeting desired a more considered approach to fixed wing and helicopter movements over the suburb in general – particularly early morning and late at night.
Due to Committee member absences, the Remuera Residents Association regrets that we will not have a presence at the Bastille Day celebrations this year. Enjoy!!
