With the 2016 Auckland Council elections only a few weeks away, you are cordially invited to meet the candidates for the Orakei Local Board.
- When: at 7.30 pm on Thursday 15th September
- Where: at St Paul’s Church Hall, St Vincent Avenue, Remuera.
Remuera lies within the Orakei Ward and falls under the Orakei Local Board.
Orakei local board members will thus shape the development of our suburb through to end-2019.
As a reminder:
Auckland Council has two decision-making parts: the governing body and the local boards.
The governing body and the local boards are autonomous and make decisions as Auckland Council within their respective areas of responsibility.
The governing body is made up of the mayor and 20 councillors. It focuses on big-picture issues that affect the whole Auckland region. The mayor is elected by all Auckland voters, while councillors are elected by voters from the ward they represent.
Auckland’s 21 local boards represent their individual areas. Each local board has between five and nine members, elected by voters from the area they represent. Local boards have a key advocacy role in regional decisions and policies. Local boards make decisions on local issues, activities and facilities, and help build strong communities.
Here are this year’s key local election dates:
- Voting documents will be delivered by post from 16-21 September
- The the voting period will run from 16 September to 8 October
- Voting will close at 12.00 noon on Election day, 8 October.
- Results will be declared and notified from15-19 October.
Come and meet the Orakei Local Board candidates and hear their views on Thursday 15th September.
See you there!
