Mt Hobson/Ōhinerau: Shabby – not Chic!

posted in: Latest News 0

While Auckland’s Tūpuna Maunga Authority (TMA) might have good intentions for the Volcanic Cones now under its control, the sadly unkempt state of Ōhinerau/Mount Hobson continues to disappoint and dismay Remuera residents who remember its once pleasant walkways and well-kept appearance.

Many feel that implementation of the “active restoration and enhancement of the natural features of the Maunga” value stated in the TMA’s Strategic Framework has thus far amounted to little more than benign neglect. For example, as our illustrations show, track condition on Mt Hobson/Ōhinerau has deteriorated and overgrowth has rendered some facilities unusable. Attention was drawn to this deterioration in a recent presentation to the Orakei Local Board.

In our view, the governance (Munga Authority) and service delivery (AC Parks dept) relationship is not working effectively on Ōhinerau/Mount Hobson.

On both access and appearance, much needs to be done!
