Cycling on Tamaki Drive – Proposed Upgrade. Give Your Views!

posted in: Latest News 0

Auckland Transport proposes to upgrade sections of the existing shared paths on both sides of Tāmaki Drive and wants your feedback on their proposal.

The upgrade would start just west of The Strand intersection running along to the Ngapipi Road intersection, creating a 2.4km walking and cycling route.

With pedestrians and cyclists potentially competing for limited shared access on a narrow, tree-lined route, this project presents many challenges. It needs also to be considered in the context of a consented upgrade to the intersection of Tamaki Drive and Ngapipi road, reported earlier. While concerned for the safety of cyclists, there are residents who are unhappy about the traffic lights to be installed at this intersection, which they feel will unduly slow traffic. Your feedback is thus important.

The proposed cycleway, which will cost around $11.5 million, will connect to the Quay Street Cycleway, Glen Innes to Tāmaki Shared Path and a proposed cycle route to Parnell along The Strand, Gladstone Road and St Stephens Avenue.

Attend an open day and have your say. Get details of the open days at at.govt.nz. Consultation closes on Sunday 18 June.

Auckland Transport promises to consider all feedback received and use it to help refine the proposal.
