Users of the Orakei Basin walkway linking Upland and Lucerne Roads will have noticed signs of construction, maintenance and vegetation management along the Lucerne Road accessway and adjacent basin slopes and water’s edge, made more apparent by recent rains.
As the sign in our illustration explains, this is all part of an improvement project that is likely to run into June, under the oversight of the Orakei Basin Auckland Waterski Club and Orakei Local Board.
At times, construction will require the accessway and steps to be closed to the public.
Movement of construction equipment has produced a fair amount of mud. There is evidence of erosion to pathways and banks in the area which has caused some concern – and which hopefully, will be addressed by this project.
We look forward to the end result with interest.
