Ōrākei ward councillor Desley Simpson has confirmed that the business case to raise Lower Portland Road has been approved, and is proceeding to the detailed design phase. Once the work is consented, it will be put out to tender, with work planned to start mid-late 2019.
Lower Portland Road has been prone to flooding for many years. The business case considered other solutions that involved pumping water out, but arrived at the conclusion that raising the road was the best way to resolve the problem.
