KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
1. SCOTT MILNE – Orakei Local Board
Local Board Members present were introduced and their background and roles outlined.

The state of play in the OLB area was outlined in a 15 minutes address that covered the Emergency Budget and the consultation feedback received and related impact on rates, and The 3 year Local Board Plan that is shortly to be available for consultation with Residents. Some of the issues relating to Parking, Reserves and Transport were canvased in Questions, including the status of the Clonbern Rd carpark and no. 4 Victoria Avenue

2. MARGOT NICOLSON – Hapua Thrive
Margot told the story of how, following the establishment of a kayak launching ramp on the waterway at Bloodworth Park, users began to complain of adverse odours in the area. A group of concerned local residents petitioned for water quality testing of the six streams running into Hobson Bay. The result was that Public Health warnings were placed on all waterways. The problem is cracked pipes, old design overflows for both sewer and stormwater, and overload system due to development, Community pressure is needed to get action underway, and considerable investment is required.

A public meeting is to be held 2.00pm 23 August at 2 Hapua St (Hapua Reserve) and all are invited to demonstrate the widespread concern of having to live with these long-term water quality issues without accelerated action.

Motion: “That this Association be wound-up and cease to operate” was not put to a vote because of a lack of a proposer or seconder. Discussion ensued. Suggested that the RRA evolve its image and operation to be the umbrella for special interest organisations in Remuera who work together for the betterment of the suburb. As an example, the following organisations were represented at this meeting: Remuera Heritage, Wilson’s Beach, Hapua Thrive, Portland Stream SEA, and all have a wish to engage with Remuera residents. Those elected (above) were challenged to explore this option, with assistance from the OLB.
