Iain Valentine, Remuera Residents Association (RRA) Chairman and Coralie Van Camp, Remuera Residents Association Committee Member attended a meeting of the Orakei Local Board on 20 April 2017 to highlight the unsatisfactory – and potentially dangerous – condition of aspects of parks and reserves within the Remuera suburb.
Iain Valentine mentioned in particular the northern slopes of Mt Hobson, the southern edge of the Ōrākei Basin, the collapsed cliff edge below St Kentigern School (illustration), and the erosion through wave action of the edges of the Ōrākei Basin.
He said that the Remuera Residents Association sought action from Auckland Council and the Orakei Local Board on project and service delivery. The RRA also sought clear lines of accountability, within a dialogue of constructive participation of residents within its community.
A powerpoint presentation was tabled, illustrating several of the items discussed. However this presentation seems to have been omitted from the minutes of the meeting, now on Auckland Council’s website. These minutes indicate that the RRA’s presentation was received by the Orakei LocaL Board with thanks, but without comment.
