To our surprise, the development illustrated above at 358-364 Remuera Road has been granted resource consent, not to be notified, on the grounds that interested parties are affected in a less than minor way.
In our opinion, the brash modernism and bulk of this structure contrasts poorly with the far more aesthetic – and architecturally sympathetic – new development at 413 – 411 Remuera Road, just across the way. Sad!
Adjustment will be called for, as this development will wrap around the ANZ Bank building on the corner of Remuera Road and Victoria Avenue and will fill the Victoria Avenue street frontage currently occupied by the Remuera Post Office. The few “public” parking bays at street level behind the Post Office will disappear.
The changing face of Remuera indeed! Do we really have to live with this? What can be done?
